La Sagrada Familia

I bought a ticket to the world famous Sagrada Familia for Monday after school. It was designed by Antoni Gaudí, a famous Spanish architect who has a lot of work around the city. Construction started in 1882 and it is still not completed to this day. It was such a big project and Gaudí knew it wouldn't be finished in his lifetime. He is buried in the crypt.

My ticket came with an audio guide which was helpful because it made me stop and look at things I would've just rushed right past on my own. The designs are so intricate and detailed that it's hard to absorb everything. It took me around to different numbered stations and described a bit about each part of the church.

There are a lot of symbols of nature inside which I liked. The one that stood out to me most is the pillars holding everything up, representing trees in a forest. The arches above spread out like a treetop canopy, too.

The stained glass inside is beautiful as well. It's pretty dimly lit except for the natural light coming in, colored from the glass. At certain times of the day I've heard that light shines through much brighter and the colors are more dramatic.

(Again, I don't have any more storage on this site for photos so I will link out to them on Google Slides.)

La Sagrada Familia is one of the most well known sites in Barcelona, so I had to check it out! I think it was worth it. It's also not far from where I live, only a 15 minute walk. This last week of school I've been taking the metro instead of the bus and the metro station is right by Sagrada Familia so I've been seeing it every morning. There is a metro station closer to my apartment that would get me to school more easily, but it's shut down this month so the bus stop is the closest. I wanted to switch it up this week and get more comfortable using the metro because I feel more like a local when I take the metro as opposed to the bus. :)
